It will be asked everywhere until you receive your first local documents; this will make it much easier for you to obtain all other documents.
Lease Agreement
If you live with a sponsor, the best way is to create a rental agreement. Don’t worry, it’s very simple—even if you don’t pay rent and live with friends, it’s better to have an agreement. It can be in free form, with a minimum term of 2-3 months and a nominal payment of $100 per month. You can also specify that the landlord (sponsor) may not charge rent under certain conditions, and the agreement can be extended or terminated by mutual consent.
Main requirements for the lease agreement:
- It must be printed (not handwritten)
- It must include the address of the residence
- It must list the full names and contacts of the landlord and all family members living there
- It must indicate the end date, which cannot be expired

Another big advantage of having such an agreement is that your rental history officially starts, and your sponsors can confirm to future landlords that you are good tenants who paid rent on time.
Utility Bill
Accepted by all departments as proof of residence. Suitable for those who already rent housing but cannot make a formal lease. The bill must be in your name.
Mobile Phone Bill
In your personal account, enter your address and request a paper bill. The downside is that the bill may take time to generate, and you may receive it only next month.
Letters or packages from Amazon, etc. are not considered official proof of address. They may be accepted only in non-governmental organizations, like food banks, and usually they rely just on your word.
