The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income individuals and families buy healthy and nutritious food. The monthly SNAP benefit depends on family size, income, and expenses. For example, in Washington state in 2023, benefits exceed $600 for a family of two.
Funds are loaded monthly onto a special EBT card. You can use these funds to buy food in any major supermarket or stores displaying EBT Accepted.

2. TANF - cash benefits
Cash benefits can be used for any needs. They are also loaded onto an EBT card, but can be withdrawn as cash.

3. WIC - nutrition benefits for children
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) targets low-income individuals at nutritional risk:
- Pregnant women (during pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after birth or end of pregnancy)
- Nursing women (until the child’s 1st birthday)
- Non-nursing postpartum women (up to 6 months after birth or end of pregnancy)
- Infants (up to 1 year). WIC serves 53% of all infants born in the U.S.
- Children up to 5 years old
