Can You Obtain a Driver’s License in a Different State?

Official I-GUIDE answer: NO

We strongly advise against obtaining a driver’s license in a state where you do not reside. A driver’s license must be issued in your state of actual residence.

Even if system loopholes allow you to obtain a license in another state, such actions may be considered misrepresentation and, in some cases, a federal offense.

Additionally, if you obtain a license in another state and then return to your state of residence, that license is typically valid for no more than 30 days. You are legally required to exchange it for a local license.
