If you filed an asylum application in immigration court, you can call the immigration court hotline to check how many days are on your asylum clock:
1-800-898-7180
Then follow these steps:
- press 1 twice
- enter your A-number
- press 1 - you will hear your last and first name spelled out
- press 1 - you will hear the date you entered the court system
- press 2 - you will hear the number of days since Form I-589 was accepted by the court
The immigration court may stop or restart your asylum clock for various reasons. You may suspect a problem if the number of days seems incorrect or if the system states that there is “no clock.”
Your asylum clock may stop if:
- you missed biometrics
- you requested more time to find an attorney
- your attorney requested additional time to prepare your case
- you moved and requested a change of venue to another immigration court
- the immigration court made an error
For example, if you submitted your asylum application to the immigration judge and then requested additional time to find an attorney, the asylum clock will not start counting days until your next court hearing.
If you believe the immigration court stopped your clock, you may contact the court to request additional information. You can ask how to contact the court administrator to request that your clock be restarted. An immigration judge may also restart your clock at your next hearing or when you agree to a date for your individual merits hearing.
You may also seek assistance from an attorney to resolve issues related to your asylum clock.
If your work authorization application was denied due to insufficient asylum clock days and the issue has been resolved, you may reapply for employment authorization.
