Where to mail the package
The correct mailing address must be checked on the
official USCIS page
under “Where to File”.
The address depends on your state, city of residence, and the mailing service used.
It is recommended to include
Form G-1145
with Form I-589 to receive a text message notification with your receipt number.
After mailing the application:
- The acceptance notice (Form I-797C, Notice of Action) is sent by mail to the address listed on Form I-589.
- The waiting time for this notice ranges from 1 to 6 months.
- The notice shows the Received Date, which starts the 150-day count before filing Form I-765 (employment authorization and SSN).
- If required, a biometrics appointment notice will also be mailed.
- A mailed Form I-589 cannot be added to an online USCIS account.
- You may track your case status only on the
USCIS Case Status website
and only after receiving Form I-797C.
