Should you file one form for everyone or separate forms for each person?

If you are in immigration court and all family members have the same judge and the same court date and time, you may file one Form I-589 for everyone with the court.
If you are in court proceedings but another family member is not yet in the system, you cannot include them in your application or start their employment authorization clock. In this case, you must either wait until they appear in the system, or file your form with the court and file a form for them with USCIS.
If both spouses are in court but have different court dates, this means your cases are not yet consolidated. You must either file separate Forms I-589 and then consolidate the cases, or consolidate the cases first and then file one joint I-589.
You may file separate forms for each family member even if your cases are consolidated and you have one joint case. Some judges require this to increase the chances of approval. However, this is not required immediately — forms for other family members may be submitted later.
